Practice Makes Permanent

Rough practices plan

Warm-up Routine:  Led by different Player each practice

Line up on 1st baseline; leader at pitchers rubber

  • 10 jumping jacks
  • 10 arm rotations each arm
  • 10 shoulder/waist twists
  • 10 toe-touches
  • Run 1 lap around field perimeter

Throw with partner for 5-10 minutes

 Go to “Station Rotation”  15 minutes each

  • Throwing
  • Fielding
  • Hitting
  • Baserunning/Rules/Situational What If’s

 End of practice-Name 1 thing you learned today.

Fundamentals

Throwing

Safety First:  Make sure the person you are throwing to is looking, be aware of teammates, i.e., don’t walk in front of them to retrieve ball

Grip

  • Step with foot opposite of throwing arm
  • Full arm motion

Fielding

Safety First:  BE ALERT!   USE GLOVE

  • Ready Position

  • Move to the ball

  • Glove Open

  • Use glove on live ball

  • Pick up dead ball with bare hand

  • Movement when ball is hit!!

Hitting

Safety First:  Make sure no one is near the swinging bat; Wear Helmet

  • Gripping the Bat

  • Hand and Arm Position

  • Feet / Stance

  • Stride into the ball

Base Running

Safety First:  Use safety base; Wear helmet

  • Run through 1st Base-  turning to the right vs. turning to the left

  • Stop at 2nd and 3rd

  • Run through Home Plate

  Rules

  • Ball in play until Umpire calls “TIME”

  • 6 pitches; unlimited foul balls on 6th pitch
